Jarrolds has been part of the retail offer in Norwich since 1823 when the business moved from Woodbridge in Suffolk where it had been established in 1770. It was originally situated on the opposite side of London Street and moved to part of the current site in 1840.

Over the last 170 years, the business has acquired the whole of the ‘block’ fronted by Exchange Street and London Street where the Department Store is situated. Jarrold also occupies nearby properties with Jarrold Office Stationery, The Granary – Home of Contemporary Living in Bedford Street and Pilch Sport. Jarrold also has a Clearance Shop in Dove Street in Norwich and further branches in The Forum and Wymondham and Cromer.

Jarrold retail's most recent acquisition is Intersport retailer Hobbs of Cambridge which is a complementary business to Pilch Sport in Norwich.
