Jarrold's Book and Art Departments are supporting the Prince's Foundation for Children & the Arts and Norwich Playhouse through providing a package of books and prizes for the schools involved in this exciting programme. There is also a special display window in the Exchange Street façade of the store publicising the project.
Norwich Playhouse has been chosen by Children & the Arts to work with them in delivering their Start programme for 2008/09 to children around the UK. It is one of the 16 new arts partners that will join the 33 arts organisations already working with Children & the Arts on Start, ensuring access to the arts for children who currently receive little or no arts provision.
Start provides funding and support to cultural venues so that they can form partnerships with primary and secondary schools in their local area. Throughout an academic year every participating student will attend at least two professional performances, concerts or exhibitions as well as taking part in a series of workshops and follow up work in the classroom designed to bring their experience to life. Through Start children discover that cultural venues are welcoming, accessible and exciting places to be.
The first phase of the project centres around Shakespeare's R+J which will be performed at Norwich Playhouse on 20,21 and 22 October 2008.
