John Jarrold Trust support for Norwich infant school's Indian link
Jarrold

The John Jarrold Trust has supported the development of a link between Arden Grove Infant and Nursery School in Hellesdon, Norwich and the Emmanuel Grace School in Bobboli in the Andhra Pradesh region of India with a donation of £500.

Claire Hannant, Assistant Headteacher at Arden Grove visited the the Emmanuel Grace School in February 2008 to provide educational support to the staff who teach entirely in English, strengthen the link between the two schools and to collect resources to enrich the teaching of Geography, RE and Citizenship at Arden Grove. Arden Grove pupils have been following the progress of the building work at Bobboli through updates provided by Pastor Nicky Smith of the Grace Christian Fellowship in Norwich. Nicky and her husband Samuel have taken on the project and are completely reliant on charitable contributions to support it. Pupils have been raising funds for the project through activities such as Harvest Festival donations and Bring and Buy sales.

The Emmanuel Grace campus includes the school, a bible college and a children's home. The school caters for children aged 4 - 10. Most of the pupils return home each day although they may have long distances to travel as the provision of education by the state is poor. Others are orphans or have been abandoned by their families and the centre provides accommodation for them.

The donation from the John Jarrold Trust was used to buy benches and tables for the school. Claire wrote to the Trustees recently saying:

'I was fortunate enough to visit the school again during this summer holiday and saw first hand the benches being used. The trust had decided on benches as these were cheaper more versatile than individual chairs. I thought that the trustees might be interested to know that, thanks to them, the 98 pupils at the school are no longer sitting on dirty concrete for their lessons.'
