David Hill - Executive Chairman David Hill
David Hill was born in Norwich in 1957 and grew up in Norfolk. He trained as a Solicitor, qualifying in 1983, and worked in the Banking department of Norton Rose in the City of London. In 1987, with two colleagues, he set up an investment banking business, Triton Capital Limited, advising airlines, aircraft manufacturers and banks on financing opportunities in the sector. He remains a non-executive Director of this business.

David, his wife and three children, returned to Norfolk in 1995. He became Executive Chairman of Jarrold & Sons Ltd in 2002. He is also Chair of Norwich HEART, Deputy Chair of the UEA Council, and a Governor of the 2nd Air Division Memorial Library.


Christopher Doggett - Group Finance Director Christopher Doggett
Christopher is a qualified accountant and became a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants in 1994. He joined Jarrold in 1992 and joined the Board as Group Finance Director in May 2003. Prior to this he held the position of Divisional Finance Director for Jarrold Retail Division.

Prior to joining Jarrold he worked for five years with Maersk Shipping, one of the largest commercial organisations in Denmark. He held senior finance positions in a number of Maersk subsidiaries including Norfolk Line, a short sea ferry and transport operator between UK and Holland/Belgium. His assignments included relocating for short periods in Amsterdam and Copenhagen.

Christopher started his career with a professional firm of accountants based in his home city of Norwich. Seeking a broader challenge to his audit responsibilities he joined an audit client, Kongskilde, involved in the import of agricultural machinery. The commercial accounting experience gained opened fresh opportunities, and led to him joining Norwich Brewery, part of the Watney Mann Group and then its parent, the Grand Metropolitan Group.

Christopher is involved in a number of activities outside Jarrold including Trustee of two local charities and PCC Treasurer of his local church. For the last 12 years he has served as Vice Chairman of the Governors and Chairman of the Finance Committee at a local school. He enjoys spending leisure time with his family and supporting his three children who are keenly involved in sport and music. He recently retired as Director and Treasurer of the British Shops and Stores Association, a national trade association representing over 3,000 independent retailers.


Peter Mitchell - Executive Director - Retail Peter Mitchell
Peter Mitchell joined Jarrold in May 2003 becoming Managing Director of the Retail Division in February 2004. He was appointed a Director of Jarrold & Sons Ltd in February 2005.

Peter is an engineering graduate of Cambridge University and started his career with strategy consultants Booz.Allen & Hamilton. He then moved into retailing, first with Comet and then Storehouse (Mothercare and BHS). Peter was Finance & Development Director of Storehouse International, and then Finance Director of BHS.

At Waterstone's Booksellers, Peter served as Business Development Director, and subsequently as Director of Retail in BSkyB's interactive division.

Peter's wife is a practicing barrister and they have three young children. All agree that moving the family home from London to North Norfolk was a great idea.


Michelle Jarrold - Family Shareholder representative Michelle Jarrold
Michelle Jarrold graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in Geography and then followed a career in book publishing with Orbis, London and Parke Sutton, Norwich before joining the retail arm of Jarrold in 1990. She progressed from Assistant Merchandise Manager to Fashion Director and, in 1997, became Merchandise Director responsible for all sourcing, sales and marketing for the Norwich store and 5 branches. She currently works part-time, as Development and Fashion Director for Jarrold Retail. She has primary responsibility for developing the image and brand portfolio of Jarrold in the competitive Norwich retail arena.

Michelle joined the Board of Jarrold and Sons Ltd in June 2002. She is a Trustee of the Theatre Royal Norwich. Michelle is married with two young children. Her interests include tennis, skiing, choral singing and modern art.


John Palmer - Family Shareholder representative John Palmer
John Palmer is Chairman and Managing Director of Palmer's Brewery, Bridport, Dorset and is the fourth generation of the family to be involved in the company which was founded in 1794 and bought in 1896.

The company has a large property portfolio of hotels, public houses, offices, shops and residential properties and specialises in producing traditional draught beers.

John is also a governor of Sherbourne School for Girls.

John, his wife and four daughters live near to Bridport.


Richard Jewson - Non - executive Richard Jewson
Richard Jewson is HM Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk.

Educated at Rugby School and Pembroke College, Cambridge, he first worked in the timber and building material supply industry, becoming managing director of Jewson, and then chairman of its parent company Meyer International plc from which he retired in 1993. He is currently chairman of Archant Ltd and Raven Russia plc and a non-executive director of other quoted and unquoted companies. He retired in 2004 from 10 years as chairman of of Savills plc, and in 2005 from 14 years as a non-executive director and deputy chairman of Anglian Water Services Limited.

He is married to Sarah with four grown up children and was brought up and lives in Norfolk. He serves as Pro-Chancellor of the University of East Anglia, chairman of East Port Great Yarmouth and of the East Anglia Art Fund Trustees. His interests include golf, three day eventing, sailing, tennis, the visual arts and opera.


Barry Skipper - Non - executive Barry Skipper
Following his National Service, Barry held Sales and Marketing positions with Proctor and Gamble, Mars and Cadbury Schweppes. He subsequently became Chief Executive of Chivers Hartley and then Cadbury Typhoo.

From 1982 to 1994 he was Chief Executive of Booker PLC's Food Distribution Division. He was Chairman of the Institute of Grocery Distribution from 1980 to 1983 and President of the Federation of Wholesale Distributors from 1987 to 1991. He was awarded the C.B.E. in 1994 for services to the Food Industry.

Since 1994 he has held a number of Non-Executive Directorships, including the Royal London Insurance Company and Warburtons Bakeries. Many of the others have been as a member of 3i's Panel of Independent Directors.

He is married to Madeleine with two children and four grandchildren. His interests include football and he was Vice Chairman of Norwich City Football Club until the end of the 2006/7 Season.
