    Supporting Students at the UEA

As part of the University of East Anglia's Difference Campaign the John Jarrold Trust supports Bursaries for students from Norfolk to study within the school of Environmental Sciences. The first two students supported by the Trust, Lucy McKinlay and Daniel Meek have just graduated.

Both Lucy and Daniel really valued their bursaries and having the opportunity to study at the UEA.

Lucy is now seeking a job relating to environmental sciences and planning to travel and work in Canada before, possibly, returning to the UEA to do a Master's degree.

Daniel has a particular interest in volcanos and earthquake faults and his final year included a field trip to Greece to study these geological features. His final dissertation focused on volcanic intrusions in Hawaii. He is considering studying for a PhD and is looking at available projects.

Daniel said ' The university experience was made all the more comprehensive with the aid of this fantastic scholarship. From helping with the cost of field trips that allowed me to expand my knowledge in stunning unique locations, to relieving financial stress in times when studying was my greatest priority, this scholarship has helped me no end. I thank you for your generosity and the support this award has provided'.

The 2016 John Jarrold Creative Writing Prize was awarded to Leo Temple for his outstanding work on the Literature and Creative Writing degree course. Leo focuses on writing poetry and essays on literatures of exile.

The pictures show Lucy and Daniel together and Leo on his own.
