Jarrold contributes to the communities of Norwich and Norfolk in many different ways. Charitable donations on behalf of the Company are usually made through the John Jarrold Trust. Over many years Directors and other staff have also been involved in local institutions and charities as Trustees, Governors or Board Directors. The Company recognises that it is important for the healthy development of the community in which it operates to participate in this way. 

At present, David Hill, Chairman, is a Trustee of the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association and a Governor of the 2nd Air Division Memorial Library. He was Chairman of Norwich HEART until August 2012. Peter Mitchell, Group Managing Director, is chairman of the Norwich City Centre Partnership and has led the recent successful campaign for a Business Improvement District for central Norwich and chairman of The Garage Trust. Christopher Doggett is Treasurer of the Norfolk Deaf Association and Michelle Jarrold is a Trustee of the Theatre Royal in Norwich. Caroline Jarrold, Community Affairs Adviser, is Chairman of VisitNorwich, the Norfolk & Norwich Festival and a Director of The Forum Trust. 

The Company also encourages initiatives from staff to support charitable fund raising. In past years, Jarrold retail staff have raised substantial funds for The Big C Norfolk & Waveney’s own cancer charity, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices and Nelson’s Journey. 

Jarrold Staff Charity Challenge

The Jarrold Staff Charity Challenge was established in 2011. Staff are encouraged to nominate local charities and projects with which they are involved or have a special interest. Funds are raised through events, collections and individual efforts to support these projects. To date, over £10,000 has been raised and ten charities supported.
